Estrotect Breeding Indicator features all the benefits of the original Estrotect Heat Detector with new Breeding Bullseye Technology—helps take the guesswork out of the breeding process. Easy-to-use, self-adhesive patch is placed on the heifer or cow’s back halfway between the hip and tail head. The Breeding Bullseye is the black spot on the breeding patch. When the black and/or silver ink is completely removed from the breeding bullseye during mounting activity, this means the animal is ready to be bred. Bright, easy-to-see indicator colors are revealed as mounting occurs indicating standing heat.

Ideal for a variety of applications such as heat detection, identify timing for breeding protocols, confirming pregnancies and identifying potential embryonic loss.

Species: Beef and dairy cattle

FEATURES / BENEFITS

When applied correctly, it will stay on the animal up to 8 weeks.

Highly effective reproductive management tool.

Over 90% accurate in detecting standing heat.

Helps take the guesswork out of breeding.

Scientifically proven to help increase confirmed pregnancy rates, up to 3x.

Ideal for herds using artificial insemination; use to identify optimal insemination timing, determine standing heat and confirm pregnancy after breeding.

Use for herds utilizing synchronization protocols as an aid in quality control indication.

Use in natural service herds; helps determine when cattle are cycling.

Works even in unfavorable weather conditions.

SPECIFICATIONS

Do not apply in rainy weather.

Do not use steel bristled comb or stiff curry comb; the Estrotect rubber brush is recommended.

INSTRUCTIONS

Keep Heat Detectors Warm. The detector should be warmed to 100 degrees F or 38 degrees C immediately prior to application. This activates the adhesive and provides instant adhesion at lower temperatures. This can be done numerous ways including putting next to your skin until they are soft and flexible. For large quantities, put the detectors in a small cooler with a hot water bottle or other heat source

Site of Application. Ideal location for placement on the cow is between the hip and tail head with ESTROTECT™ evenly spaced perpendicular to the spine

Brush Hair Thoroughly. Create optimal conditions for adhesion by vigorously brushing the area of application with an ESTROTECT™ Brush. Brush with the grain of the hair to remove dirt, dust and shedding molting hair.

Note: Protect detectors from tail flicking by placing them near the top of the tail when fly counts are high.  Do NOT brush hair with a steel bristle comb. Do not use stiff curry combs for brushing or cleaning

Clean the Hair. Clean the surface area with an ESTROTECT™ Cleaning Cloth to completely remove any remaining dirt, dust, sand or sawdust. The ESTROTECT™ Cleaning Cloth conditions the cows hair to receive the adhesive.  As with brushing, wipe with the grain of the hair and fold the cleaning cloth as needed.  ESTROTECT™ Cleaning Cloth remains effective as long as the cloth is still tacky to the touch.

Heat Detector Application. Place heat detector on the application site, press down firmly and rub into hair with bare fingers. Do not apply in rainy weather.  Ideal location for placement on the cow is between the hip and tail head.

Heat Detection Tips:

Heat detection requires thorough observation regardless of which aid you choose to use. To help ensure success, follow these tips.

Observe the cows for 30 minutes twice a day, early in the morning and early in the evening. Consider observations at noon when mounting activity is high.
Observe cows away from the feed bunk.
Hot weather, high production, crowded conditions or high stress environments may curtail mounting activity. Adjust your observations accordingly.
Cows in standing heat average about 1.5 mounts per hour and are in heat 6-8 hours.
Cows may be willing to mount others even though neither may stand for a mount.
Cows in pre-heat may bawl, be restless or sniff, lick or headbutt other cattle.
